- can become chronic (fibromyalgia, cancer arthritis)
- Allodynia (respond to previously non-irritant stimuli)
- hyperalgsia respond more seriously to minor irritant
- dronc activity (cell death response) is required for allodynia. Signals through eiger synthesis
- Does not affect hyperalgsia response.
- Novel requirement for hedgehog signalling.
- Also implicate several ion channels downstream of TNF and or Hh signaling
